Our Activities
To support ever-growing demand for metals utilized in sustainable and renewable technologies IG is actively pursuing opportunities in Kazakhstan and Mongolia through its regional subsidiary IG Asia:
Kazakhstan
Critical Minerals
Capitalizing on its knowledge of exploration for lithium-enriched brines in North America, IGK is active in early-stage exploration for brine reservoirs associated with enclosed basins adjacent to young or eroded mountain ranges and deep petroleum basin related brine (PBRB). IG is trialing innovative exploration and sampling techniques using satellite technology coupled with ion meter probe to take direct real time measurements of brine electrolytes in the field to identify and track surface expressions of lithium pathfinders in salars that plumb into deep, sustainable alkali metal brine systems pooled in structural traps and at basin centres.
Based on these techniques and profiling regional geophysics and structural data, IGK has applied for three exploration licences totaling 250 blocks northeast of the Aral Sea associated with the Turgai-Ural Margin. IGK is also in negotiation with a local partner to JV a mature exploration licence area in the Aral Basin that has greater understanding of basin morphology and hydrogeology with a potential resource base.
Depending on the success of its initial seed programs, IG Asia intends to further invest working capital to advance:
- Its copper-gold field programs develop drill targets ready for initial testing in 2023 and reach decision points for further development by the end of the year.
- A full working model for Kututau. Establish style of mineralization, hydrothermal root and where porphyry system lies relative to higher level epithermal gold system. Prepare an initial evaluation drill program.
- Commit US$11M to 2028 for ‘right to retain’ on the major porphyry opportunity to complete a preliminary mining project on a 12,000tpa Cu cathode acid leach and SX/EW recovery operation and reach PFS level confidence on a combined oxide with >25Mtpa throughput sulphide concentrator.
- An intensive program of shallow borehole and clay-fraction sampling on its brine licences. Model the basin and hydrology to target aquifers and drill concept wells to pump test the acquifers.
- Working relationships with O&G stakeholders to assess, model and sample selective production water outlets arising from exploration plays, mature and decommissioned oil fields.

Kazakhstan
IGK has entered into an earn-in JV agreement with a local Kazakhstani enterprise in southern Kazakhstan committing in excess of USD1M to fund ongoing exploration on the Kututau licence for a right to earn a majority stake over a 2-year vesting period. The enterprise represents an integrated epithermal gold target with a well-developed lithocap that has mesothermal/porphyry copper upside potential to generate +1Mt contained Cu and close to a major porphyry (Koksay) undergoing a FS.

Principle porphyry copper-gold plays in Kazakhstan and IGs areas of interest
IG Asia is also carrying out due diligence on several gold and copper deposits at advanced exploration stage within the highly prospective Balkhash-Ili Metallogenic Belt north of Lake Balkhash. This includes a ‘right-to retain’ interest in an exciting established porphyry system with locally reported reserves >2Mt contained copper and 100kt contained molybdenum at a 0.25% cut-off grade.
IG Asia is also pursuing an interest with an international partner to enhance and develop an orogenic gold deposit in a nascent gold exploration district in Karaganda oblast that has an oxide resource favourable for rapid development into production and global resource potential in excess of 2Mozs of gold.
Mongolia
IG Asia owns a 75% interest in the TN-5 licence which comprises a 6,319 sq. Ha area in the highly prospective Trans Altai belt in the Gobi Desert, southern Mongolia comprising the TN-5 and Camel target areas (Five Northern Camels Prospect) that are speculated to lie on the same structural trend that controls emplacement of Oyut Tolgai.
IG is currently conducting a ground magnetic survey and geological mapping over the entire licence area with a view to zooming in on prospective areas to generate shallow drill targets for testing the bedrock under aeolian cover in Q3 2023.
